Quote from R34GTR :Yup, went out and bought some steelies to put my snow tyres on, sods law it won't snow now But means I can get my alloys refurbed for when I put them back on

Why the sad face?

I bought winter wheels and tyres and probably actually "needed" them (as in it was 2 or 3 degrees with damp, salty roads, for about a week. No snow yet here, slightly pointless, almost a waste of money!!! Never bothered with winter tyres/wheels before and the ONE TIME I DO it's like 11 degrees 3 days before Xmas.. Could have soldiered on with my Primacy HP's but then it's the wheels getting covered in sheet...

Quote from spookthehamster :It is/was a 1.3CDTI Limited Edition (the cheapest little diesel I could get on finance at the time). Depending on what the insurance company value it at, I'll either get something like a little Polo or fix the 106D I used to drive (which leaks, and pops out of gear, and has damage from when someone drove into my Dad...)

I'm fine, as was the driver of the other car.

I was turning at a green light, and had assumed the light was for my direction only (there wasn't anyone coming the other way at the time), then he came over the crest of a bridge in the other direction and collected me. He admitted that he was travelling faster than the speed limit, so hopefully they'll take that into account a tiny bit instead of lumping 100% of the blame on me.

Um how much are you thinking you'll get? You should get a lump payout plus ask to keep the car at no cost. This has happened countless times on ukmkivs.net - Sell it as Salvage, someone will have it. Most end up with £2-3k more than the price of the car especially if modded.
By the time you've spent money fixing up a shitheap you'd have been better off buying a decent car to begin with.

Get a Polo GT TDI 130. Remap to 180 straight away, very quick.

3 month old car and the insurance company have written it off...

When I get the cheque I'll be paying off the finance and using the leftovers to buy an old car to run into the ground on my daily commute. Much more my style than a new car. Any suggestions for a mega efficient (60mpg+) old car?

Unfortunate mate, Corsa D? What engine, looked like an LE. How did it happen??

Consider a Golf, I get 60mpg on a run.

Quote from Töki (HUN) :No one cares if you kill yourself, that's not what we're against. If you love it then do it. It's about the other people on the roads out there. No matter how pro drivers you cruise with, one silly mistake or mechanical failure and you kill innocent people. Living with that fact... I don't wish that to anyone.

no-one cares if he dies anyway.

He died at like 24 years old. I'd rather live to be 70 and have a boring life than die before my prime. Nothing amazing, special or interesting about dying because you're a moron.

Fiesta was boring.
0:51 i suspect either a 30 or 40 limit which you are of course keeping to!! no reason to blank out a speedo if you don't speed!!
1:20 what the hell are you thinking is your fiesta a space shuttle? this is the reason i hate buying used cars because people just jump them over speedbumps breaks everything!!

remind me to never buy a car from you

Careful Jake, getting into a debate about anything vaugley car/math/science related with Alex can end in hours of eating ice-cream not really caring either way.

To be fair it is a car made by a bunch of surrender monkeys not a country capable of mass genocide, i don't think the engineering is quite comparable.

Quote from 1303s_vortech :

Thx for infos, I already been told about this.

Btw, is it true that putting some 2-stroke oil through the engine's top cover would help to lub' rods/valves faster?
.

no idea. just crank it without spark plus out or something job done. don't worry about it half of the time the more you do, the more you make it worse.

Quote from e2mustang :lol. you know whats the Bmw E90/1 bulletin for valve tap? rev the engine at 5-6 k for 15 minutes.

Quote from e2mustang :well first off you should tow it to your house, change the oil maybe coolant too, take the fuel pump fuse out, crank the engine so oil pressure builds up. than put fuse back.than run it on idle till heats up.and if theres a noise than u rev it @ 5K for 10-15 min.

Having an engine revving at 5000rpm with no load on it is just asking for a shot rod. Neither should an engine idle. It have the fluids and filters changed (all of them, oil+filter, air filter, new fuel plus fuel filter, coolant) and after the oil is changed then do as e2 mustang says, stop it from starting and crank the engine for a few seconds. Then put fuse/plugs back in and then allow to idle for about a minute, this builds oil pressure and lubricates surfaces internally.

Then you want to take it for a drive. Keep revs and engine loading low (so between 1500 and 2500 rpm, avoid chugging up hills in a high gear, don't accelerate hard, etc) and allow the engine to warm up to temperature.

Idling a cold engine is worse than driving it in a way in which a cold engine should be driven.
